Destiny Career Planners was launched by Karen Smith-Hanney in 2001. Her initial goal was to provide specialized and targeted coaching to aspiring firefighters and police officers. As this journey continues many of our clients achieved their goals in the fire service and law enforcement agencies.

About Karen Smith-Hanney
Karen, CEO and Chief Professional Coach at Destiny Career Planners, was a former human resource manager, police officer and civilian member of the RCMP. In launching her business she completed the Erickson International Coaching Program and is a Certified Professional Coach. She has worked with hundreds of clients through her personal coaching sessions. As a Contract Instructor with the Justice Institute of BC, (Fire Academy), she was a key Workshop Facilitator to more than 50 Classes of recruit firefighters in the original Career Firefighter Pre-Employment Program. Karen facilitated interview readiness workshops for SMART Fire Academy (now Training Division), FireMedix and a Private Peace Officer Training Program. She has designed workshops to help participants create their own resumes, navigate the application processes and prepare for the interview. She has been contracted by several municipal agencies to specifically coach job applicants.
Karen is trained in behavioural interviewing, coaching and resume writing. She uses best practises to guide clients through their applications, create resumes and prepare for interviews.
Karen is member of Career Professionals of Canada, International Coach Federation, and Career Directors International.
